INT04 -
ADHD: Neuroscience and Psychopharmacology & Motivation and Learning
This two-day seminar will present how ADHD has been treated with medication over the past 30 years through brain imaging techniques and research that has given a better understanding of ADHS and how to treat the illnesses associated with this disorder--anxiety, juvenile bipolar disorder, and substance abuse. We will gain a better understanding of the neurobiology and psychopharmacology of ADHS and will position teachers to help their ADHD students manage the side effects and comply with prescribed medication. We will also look at the current issues in the psychology of motivation with ADHD diagnosed students. Topics will include psychological and educational literature on motivation, the role of motivation in the functioning ADHS students, research on the brain and its effect on motivating behavior, functioning and learning, how ADHD and particular breakdowns in brain function impact motivation, and proven strategies for teaching motivation and learning to ADHS students.
