  DAVID FERRY is Hart Professor of English, Emeritus, at Wellesley College. His Gilgamesh: A New Rendering in English Verse was a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for 1993. He is an Honorary Fellow of the Academy of American Poets and a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. In 2001 he received an Academy Award for Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. His most recent books are The Odes of Horace: A Translation; The Eclogues of Virgil: A Translation; The Epistlres of Horace: A Translation, all published by Farrar Straus and Giroux; and Of No Country I Know: New and Selected Poems, published by the Chicago University Press. Of No Country I Know won the 2000 Lenore Marshall Prize of the Academy of American Poets and the 2000 Rebekah Johnson Bobbitt Prize of the Library of Congress. It was a finalist for the New Yorker Book Award for Poetry amd for the PEN New England / Winship Prize. His translation of the Epistles of Horace won the 2002 Harold Morton Landon Translation Award, Academy of American Poets.
